Balance Dogs

Balance dogs provide support for those people who are mobile but are unsteady at times.

Australian Support Dogs Inc assesses its larger and stronger dogs for their suitability as a Balance dog. These dogs receive full Assistance dog training in addition to being taught to work as Balance Dogs.

Balance dogs and mobility

By offering support Balance dogs assist people with balance issues when they are going up and down stairs or getting up from chairs or beds. They can reduce or eliminate the need for canes or walkers.

When out in Public places, they can enable the person to engage with other people, look around or focus on things other than the ground immediately in front of them.

Balance Dogs and Safety

Balance dogs can also reduce or eliminate the risk of falls due to loss of balance.

ASDOG balance dogs are trained to:

  • Pick up dropped objects

  • Fetch requested objects

  • Bring the cordless phone from any room in the house

  • Take objects to requested places or people

  • Get help in the event of a fall (if the person does not live alone.)

  • Take clothes out of washing machines and dryers and items out of the fridge

  • Carry items and baskets

  • Pull baskets on wheels
